THE HUMAN SECURITY DEBATE

There has been ongoing debate regarding the concept of human security, mainly due to factors such as the lack of a clear and widely accepted definition, its ambiguous and vague nature, challenges in using it as a policy analysis tool, and the differing importance placed on the role of the state, among other factors. Human security has been adopted and utilized in various ways by academics, international communities, government officials, and countries as well as other international actors. This diversity of perspectives and debates surrounding human security underscores the complexity involved in the measurement of the concept. The first significant definition of human security was outlined in the 1994 UNDP report, which generated discussions about the ambiguity and vagueness of the concept, leading to subsequent definitions. This study explores the contentious themes of human security identified through a review of relevant literature.
